Since our last update we've been hard at work increasing our output of Beta 3.0 boards. We hit a slight snag in late December that initially slowed us down but we have solved the issue and are moving forward at a record pace.
The extra week it took us to identify and solve the production issue may require us to extend Beta 3.0 production and field testing slightly, but that remains to be seen. We will know by the end of this week if we can hit our previous 1/9 goal. If it needs to be pushed back it shouldn't be by more than one week.
Thinking about 2017 and how best to put the ghosts / headaches / delays of 2015 and 2016 behind us, I wanted to share my mindset going forward with the community:
There have been extremely high highs. We've watched Matt Lauer and Michael Strahan ride ZBoards on live TV, and thankfully not fall. We've seen epic customer videos and pictures, including my personal favorite - the ZBoard birthday cake. We've gotten the opportunity to ride around San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York, Austin, and Miami all in the name of the company. Its truly been an amazing ride.
There have also been tough times. We've missed shipping projections. We've run into unforeseen issues with production. We've made mistakes. We've had to fire people. The road has been bumpy.
The only thing that makes any of this possible is the backing of our customers and community. A less patient, less passionate group would have given up with the first sign of adversity. You have stayed with us and for that I thank you.
For the last two years we've put nearly all of our resources into finalizing and delivering the boards you've been waiting for patiently, and I'm happy to say that this week we'll build and ship more ZBoard 2 units than any week prior. Over these two years we have not spent significant resources on sales, marketing, PR, or promotion. Going into 2017 we need to be a bit more balanced in order to grow.
In the coming weeks you'll begin to see more marketing coming from our company. While the rest of the team at our facility focused on production, I will be in Las Vegas for CES later this week sharing the ZBoard 2 with journalists with the goal of selling more boards to help our community grow. You'll begin seeing additional social media and email advertising from us as well.
I recognize that a logical reaction to this is "they should be solely focused on delivering my board!" I see this perspective, but if you step back I hope this is something our community can cheer for and encourage. As we grow we'll be able to hire more engineers to design new cool accessories, hire more guys in production to build boards faster, and be able to bring on more customer service reps to answer your emails more quickly. Growth of our company is key for our passion and your passion for ZBoard to maintain and spread.
2015 and 2016 weren't quite as fun as the years prior for us or our community, so we're committed to making 2017 the best year yet. Thanks again for taking this journey with us and supporting us financially and emotionally along the way. We owe it all to you.
How Future Promotions Affect Your Pre-Order
People ordering domestic orders in the coming weeks and months will receive their boards after current domestic orders.
You've been waiting and incredibly patient. You'll be riding first.
We won't be taking additional international orders until we can finalize and announce an international delivery schedule.
Certain elements of our international delivery schedule are still being sorted out. Some new domestic orders may ship before international orders. I recognize this is frustrating. This is frustrating for us as well and something we're working to solve.
No one will be getting a better deal than you received.
We may offer discounts or offers but our intention is for no one without a pre-order to pay less than those of you who have been waiting.
