In the past three weeks since our last update we have:
- Built and shipped out all of the Beta 2.1 -> 3.0 upgrades
- Shipped out the first three batches of Beta 3.0 boards
- Improved and increased the speed of our manufacturing process
- Refined our testing protocols helping to reduce failure rates
In this update we'll go into detail on the recently completed completed work and the schedule for shipping moving forward.
Shipping Out Beta 2.1 -> 3.0 Upgrades
All of these that we have received have now been shipped. If you haven't shipped back your Beta 2.1 for an upgrade, please do so. These upgrades require a very deliberate process that includes complete dis-assembly, analysis, tune adjustments, re-assembly, testing, and shipping.
Shipping Out New Beta 3.0 ZBoards
We have increased our build pace each week since our last update. Last week we we built out our first large batch of Z2 Blues. This week we've been focused on Z2 Pearls and by the end of the week I expect to pass 100 total Beta 3.0 units shipped, with more going out early next week.
Along with this final production we've been completing much of the pre-work and sub-assemblies to help expedite build times in the coming weeks. We expect our build pace to continue to improve through the rest of the month and into January.
Building Faster and More Carefully
We've continued to adjust and optimize our manufacturing process including refinements in the way our shop is organized and how parts flow through assembly, testing, packaging and shipping.
Final Testing Protocols
To further reduce failures in the field we have added several additional steps to our final testing procedures. This prolongs the testing process but means that when boards do ship out they are far more robust.
Several performance specifications of each board's drivetrain are tested and documented. We have started using a tachometer to determine peak RPM of the drive wheels and are making advanced timing adjustments to each board's firmware to uniquely tune it to its motor. As a result, boards are running smoother and MUCH cooler than ever, meaning they are far less likely to enter Temp Warning or Overtemp Modes, which we're really stoked on.
We are also now testing each board in multiple tuning modes. Early on in Beta 3.0 production we identified an issue where mode changing was not working properly and parameters from Beginner and Normal were incorrectly influencing Expert and Ludicrous, essentially slowing the board down. After identifying this issue quickly (massive thanks to our Beta 3.0 riders) we have now fixed the firmware issue and beefed up our testing to ensure it does not happen again.
Schedule Moving Forward
So far we've been hearing great things about Beta 3.0 boards from riders in the field and we're more confident than ever that this build will be identical to production. With that in mind and the increasing speed of our build schedule here are our latest projections for future shipments.
At this time we are still working towards finalizing the schedule for international units. Once the process is nailed down we will announce it.
From the Founders
This month has been full of long hours at the shop, highlighted by riding and testing the boards. They still put a smile on our faces every time we ride! We know you're going to love them and we're working hard to get as many of you riding as quickly as possible. The delays have been painful and at times I've felt a bit like a broken record on this blog, but now that we're nearing the end I can say confidently that the final product makes each delay worth it. This is a board we can 100% stand behind. It can go up against any board out there in terms of performance and (in my super biased opinion) is completely unmatched in terms of fun factor. Absolutely none of this would be possible without you and we are forever grateful for your patience and support!
