ZBoard 2 has officially entered production!
After four rounds of beta testing we're happy to announce that the ZBoard 2 has now been finalized! We owe a massive thank you to our 250 beta testers who logged over 10,000 miles and gave us in-depth feedback. This update will include:
- Comments from Beta Customers
- Estimated Delivery Schedule Going Forward
Beta 3.0 Feedback
"Uniquely fun to ride. No damn remote :)" - Christopher, TX
"Ease of use and intuitive control. I greatly prefer the pressure pads to a hand controller." - Ezra, VA
"It hauls ass and goes for quite a distance. Haven't had any errors from it yet. Seems well constructed and is a blast to ride." - James, CA
"Zips along any surface, cheaper than any car, easy to carry." - Zachary, CA
"I have to charge the board once a week, and it lasts from Monday until Friday. Seriously, the battery life and the ability to take it into a classroom and keep the board with me at all times (to avoid being stolen) is awesome." - Thomas, TX
"Comfortable, fun, an absolute pleasure. Thank you for all your work... I think you have hit the perfect combination with the components you are currently using." - Jeff, WA
"Easy to use! Super responsive and fast. It also looks hella cool when you're cruising around" - Jacob, NY
"I mean, it's an electric skateboard without a remote! How cool is that!? The big wheels, the carved out handles, it's all really awesome." - Shawn, CA
"This is my first ever board of any type. I'm 43 and this is as natural as walking for me already." - Christian, AR
"Going up hill is an absolute blast!" - Zach, MN
"My first time on an electronic skateboard. A transformative commuting experience!" -Daniel, HI
"Very intuitive for new riders." - John, FL
Corner Case Issues:
A very small percentage of boards did experience issues in the field. These were returned to our shop for analysis. Upon diving in we identified a few, easily correctable Quality Assurance oversights. We've put new protocols into place to prevent these issues in the future.
After completing several weeks of pre-production work we are excited to finally settle into a repeatable production schedule. This has greatly increased our efficiency. As we've mentioned before, receiving boards back to our shop, documenting them, troubleshooting them, fixing them, and testing them - as we've done through four rounds of beta testing - is a very long, arduous process. Every board is slightly different and requires several sets of eyes.
Building boards from scratch is a much faster, more efficient, easier to optimize process. Each week we have a build schedule culminating with Friday when we test, box, and ship that week's batch of boards. Tracking numbers will be going out on Friday evenings.
This week will be our first week going through the above process. Our projection this week is to build and ship 50 new boards. As we continue to optimize and document this process we plan to be able to increase the output.
| Date of Original Order*
||Projected Shipping Date
|March - June 2015
|July - August 2015
|September 2015 - January 2016
|February 2016 - August 2016
|September 2016 - March 2016
||Starting April 28
This above estimate is our rough projection at this time and it is subject to change. Built into these numbers are several assumptions, including a steadily increasing amount of boards completed each week. International orders will now begin shipping at the end of April. We have already reached out to many international customers about verifying their address and paying shipping / fees. We will continue doing this over the coming weeks.
*If you first ordered on Indiegogo, use the date of your Indiegogo backing, not the date when you received your 4 digit website order number. If you originally ordered through our website, use that purchase date. Note that this list only applies to US, MX, and Canada orders. All overseas international orders will ship together.
From the Founders:
We're Shipping!!! It feels good and we're excited to lock in to a repeatable production schedule. Even though we're building at a breakneck pace the repetition of it all can be relaxing at times. We have hundreds of boards to build so we're not celebrating yet, but we're super stoked that the project has turned the corner and so many of you will be riding soon!
Its been a long road. Its been bumpy. But you all have stuck with us through 2 (!!!) years of it. There would't be a ZBoard without our community. To me its not just a customer base, its a real community. Together you are our bosses, our financiers, our testers, our customers. You made this happen, and we're forever grateful.
Ben, Geoff, and the ZBoard Team
