Beta 2.1 > 3.0 Upgrades Are Now Shipping
Last week we began shipping boards with the upgraded Beta 3.0 hardware and firmware out to testers. These boards are riding awesome and we can't wait to hear feedback from the field!
Receiving and Updating Beta 2.1 Boards
Each Beta 2.1 board receives basic maintenance, the new Beta 3.0 firmware, and a new Fuse Board before testing. Each board and its components are tracked the entire time they are at our facility. We are completing these Beta 2.1 -> 3.0 upgrades first. More on this below.
Soldering Fuse Boards
As we mentioned in our previous post, each Beta 3.0 Board (whether built from scratch or an upgrade) requires a Fuse Board. Due to the urgent need for these Fuse Boards, we as a team took on the task of hand soldering them ourselves (mostly Geoff, Go Geoff!). This was a ton of work but was very necessary as outside assembly would have caused delays.
Installing Fuse Boards into Battery Boxes
With these Fuse Boards complete, we have begun installing them into battery boxes. The Fuse Board is soldered in-line with the motor’s power wires and installed with thermal epoxy to the battery box’s sidewall to avoid overheating or rattling loose.
Beta 3.0 Sub-Assembly Production
We assemble ZBoards in phases until we have 3 basic sub-assemblies: Rear Truck + Deck, Battery Box, and Front Truck. Along with the battery box production discussed above, we have been completing the Rear Truck + Deck assemblies.
New Charge Adapter
Each built-from-scratch Beta 3.0 board will ship with the Charger Adapter seen below. This part helps the board more accurately read out the remaining battery capacity, and improves regenerative braking power after a full charge.
Note: Beta 2.1 > 3.0 Boards do not require the Charger Adapter as this part was installed into the Beta 2.1 charger. We did not continue this installation process as it was not practical for larger volume production.
Note: Though Beta 2.1 > 3.0 Boards do not have this Charge Adapter, their battery meter and regenerative braking at full charge have both been majorly improved in the Beta 3.0 firmware.
Schedule Going Forward
We're blown away by how many of you signed up to join Beta 3.0! Thanks so much for being a part of this process.
Some details on this process:
The Beta 2.1 > 3.0 Upgrades are shipping out first. This process started last week. If you haven't sent your Beta 2.1 back yet, please do so immediately.
After that, we will be shipping out Beta 3.0 boards in the order of their original order, either through Indiegogo or our website. It is not the order that you signed up for the Beta 3.0. We feel that this is the most fair approach.
We are hoping to complete most of the 2.1 > 3.0 upgrades before the holiday break. We expect new Beta 3.0 production will really ramp up the week of 11/28.
We'll be able to expand on more precise shipping schedules for Beta 3.0 boards next week once we have a grasp for how quickly we're able to build them from scratch.
From the Founders
Its been very exciting to get Beta 3.0 boards out there and to begin moving into production! Thanks to all of you who have stood by us and supported us since the project began. You have made this possible and kept us supremely motivated to deliver something awesome.
